Cervantes,11. 10:00 - 14:30. saturdays 10:00 - 13:30. closed sundays and from july 15th till september 15th. A reconstruction of the house where Cervantes has lived (The writer of the famous novel Don quijote)

Casita del Principe . El Pardo (about 15 km from Madrid).
Winter 10:00 - 13:00 , 16:00 - 18:00. summer 10:00 - 13:00, 16:00-19:00 sunday 10:00 - 13:00. Built in 1785 by Juan de Villanueva for Carlos IV. It's got the beautifol portraits by the famous painter Antonio Rafael Mengs.

Casón del buen Retiro. Alfonso XII,28.
09:00 - 19:00. Sundays and holidays 09:00 - 14:00. closed mondays. Entrance fees 400 pts. Free for holders of DNI (Spanish Id) or CEE passports (European community). The mueseum holds paintings from the XIX century,those that are normally housed in Museo del Prado.

Centro Cultural de La Villa de Madrid
In plaza colon, the centre is considered the most active culture centre in Madrid.

Centro Cultural Reina sofia.
Santa Isabel,52. 10:00 - 21:00. closed on tuesdays. Interesting modern centre for expositions, since it was inaugurated it turned into the stage for the most important cultural activities in the City.

Circulo de Bellas Artes.
Alcala,42. Exposition for plastic art and conferences.

Ermita de San Antonio de la Florida.
Paseo de la Florida. 09:30 - 14:00, 16:00 - 20:00. staurdays and sundays 10:00 - 14:00. The building dates back to the XVII century when it was rebuilt by order from Carlos IV in the place where two Churches dedicated to San Antonio where built before by Churriguera and Sabatini. In the interior the famous frescos and sepulcure from Goya.

Monumental Fountains.
Fuente de Cibeles (see photo above),it's a real symbol of Madrid. The project was designed by Ventura Rodriguez by an order from Carlos III. The same designed the Neptune fountain (in plaza Canóvas del Castillo), built by Juan Pascal de Mena,in 1780,and the fountain Alcachofa,installed right next to lake in the Retiro Park. La Fuente de la Fama (road Barcelo), designed by Pedro de ribera is considered one of the most famous. Another fountain designed by Ventura Rodriguez is the fuente de los Delfines,in the corner of the roads Santa Brigida and Hortaleza. Other fountains are of the Atocha,plaza Republica Argentina,Plaza Colon and plaza Mariano de la Cavia and not to forget the fuentecilla in the Toledo road.

Iglesia de San Jeronimo el Real.
Ruiz de Alarcon road. Was an old monastry from the Catholic kings era,reformed in the XIX century and passed another reconstruction after the civil war (in the 30's of the 20th century).

Botanic Gardens.
plaza murillo,2 (next to the museo del Prado). 10:00 - 18:00 , between may 1st and september 1st 10:00- 21:00. Entrance fee 100 pts. Was inaugurated by Carlos III in 1781. The garden has more than 30.000 different species.

Madrid of the Austrias Quarter.
It is the area surrounding plaza mayor,most of the houses were built int he XVI and XVII centuries. It is recommended to walk through it's roads.

Monastery of the Encarnation
plaza encarnacion. 10:30 - 13:00 , 16:00 - 17:30.closed monday and friday afternoon. Entrance fees 300 pts., wednesday free. Work started in 1611 by Juan Gomez de Mora. The monastery has got a very good collection of statues and paintings.

Monastery of the Descalzas Reales.
plaza descalzas reales,3. 10:30 - 12:30 , 16:00 - 17:15. Sundays and holidays 11:00 - 13:30. closed monday and friday afternoon.The monastery contains the church of Gomez de Mora (1616).Excellent collection of paintings,carpets and carvings. The monastery dates to the XVI century. In 1987 it was declared as the museum of the year.

The Wall of Madrid (Muralla de Madrid)
cuesta de la Vega. Ruins of the walls built by the arabs in IX and X centuries and the walls built by the christians in the XII and XIII centuries.

National Astronomic observatory (Observatorio Astronomico Nacional)

Palacio de la Quinta.
El Pardo road, km 6.2. 10:00 - 13:00 and 16:00 - 20:00. Dates back to the XVIII century. In it's interior a lot of paintings,and Isabelian Furniture as well as the collection of paintings of Carlos V. Not to forget the painted papers of the XIX century.

Palacio de Liria.
princesa , 20. A visit is arranged when sending a previous card indicating number of persons. Is the private house of the Casa Ducal de Alba. construction started in 1773, by Sabatini and ventura Rodriguez. In november 1936 was almost destroyed by bombardments during the civil war by airplanes of Franco causing massive loss of arts. It contains now a great collecion of the european masters.

Palacio Real (royal palace). (see above).

Palacio de El Pardo.
El pardo,15 km off Madrid. 10:00 - 13:00 and a15:30 -18:00. First built back in the XV century by Enrique III,then passing several reforms.The most important by Sabatini during the role of Carlos III. In the interior art works of Tiziano,El Bosco,sanchez Coello and Antonio Moro. since 1940 - 1975 it served as the residence of Franco. At the moment it serves as the residence of other countries presidents and rulers who are visiting Spain. The palace contains a fantastic collecions of watches and clocks.

Planetario de Madrid.
Parque tierno Galvan. 17:30 - 18:45, morning reserved for students and school visits. Weekends from 11:30 - 20:00. close mondays . Entrance fees 350 pts. children 50%. In the inside halls the reporoduce the space.

Plaza de Toros.
Alcala, 237. The plaza were bull fights are held in Madrid.

Puente de Toledo (bridge of Toledo), over the river Manzanares, a work of Pedro de Ribera in 1732. The statues decorating it refer to San Isidro and Santa Maria de la Cabeza, a work of Juan Ron.

Puerta de Alcala. (Gate of Alcala)
built in 1778 by Sabatini for Carlos III.

Puerta de Hierro.
Caretera de la Coruña. was built in 1753.

Puerta de Toledo.
was built by Jose Bonoparte in 1827.

Puerta de San Vicente.
Is in the north station.
